SPRING 2024
Dahlonega - Wednesday, February 28 | Gainesville - Monday, March 25
Meet Reagan Smith (B.A. History, Art History MInor). Smith is DoVA's distinguished Art History Intern for Fall 2023. In this introductory, hands-on workshop of the Museum Work Series, you will learn about the role and activities of a Collections Manager and Museum Registrar. Skills taught will be accessioning and deaccessioning artworks into/from the museum registry, organizing the art vault, examining and reporting the condition of artworks, conducting initial research on little-known artists, and more. Through her internship at the Hall County Arts Council--Smithgall Center in downtown Gainesville, Smith gained first-hand experience in these key museum skills as she single-handedly catalogued and reviewed the condition of a 250-object collection.
As in all TimeFrame events, pizza and other refreshments will be served.
All Campuses - Friday, March 1
On Friday, March 1st, TimeFrame is taking a field trip to the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art. We will visit the museum galleries and "behind the scenes" areas guided by curator Madeline Beck. Beck will share her experience working in a regional museum as a curator who "wears many hats." We will have the chance to ask questions  about her process for scouting artists, writing contracts, curating exhibitions that address the  needs of both specialized and broad audiences, designing and preparing the exhibition space, and maintaining relationships with artists, donors, and audiences. This visit to MCMA is key for those who wish to explore "museum work" as a profession.
Getting There | Cost
On March 1st, join us directly at the door of  Marietta Cobb Museum of Art at 1 pm.
Alternatively, meet at the door of Hansford Hall in UNG Dahlonega to carpool with members of TimeFrame's executive committee by 11 am. If you chose to carpool, please register here so we can anticipate how many vehicles will be needed. Space is limited. Please register early.
Museum admission + guided tour is $6. Added expenses will be gas and public parking. If you carpool, gas and parking will be shared by driver and riders.
Two exhibitions will be on view: Georgia Photography Juried Exhibition and Narrative Artwork in the MCMA Permanent Collection. Both look very interesting.
Madeline Beck graduated with a B.F.A. in Art with Art History concentration from Kennesaw State University. While a student, she was first an intern at the Marietta Museum of Art and later worked as curatorial assistant at Kennesaw's Zuckerman Museum of Art. During her bachelor program, she was involved in undergraduate research on Egyptian and Greek art. Immediately upon graduation, she was hired as curator at the-then recently founded Marietta Museum of Art. Learn more about Madeline Beck here.

Dahlonega - Wednesday, March 6
On the third installment of TimeFrame's Museum Work Series, we welcome Daniel Kornrumpf, Senior Lecturer of Drawing and Painting and Gallery Manager of the Bob Owens Art Gallery in Dahlonega. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn skills associated with preparing your artworks to be "gallery ready" for a show, as well as introductory knowledge of gallery space design, construction, and maintenance. This workshop will enable beginning artists to feel confident and professional when submitting works to juried and invitational exhibitions. It will also furnish introductory skills in Art Preparation for those interested in this valuable and desired aspect of museum work.
Daniel Kornrumpf has extensive experience as Art Preparator through his ongoing work as Gallery Manager at the Bob Owens Art Gallery. He is also a highly skilled figurative painter of evocative scenes of everyday life and a creative textile artist.
As in all TimeFrame events, refreshments will be served prior to starting the workshop. Arrive early to grab a bite!
Dahlonega - Friday, March 22
Join us for the last event in the Museum Work Series @ TimeFrame! Participate in the design of an exhibition space by helping decide  where and how to install fifteen digital prints from original drawings by Octavio Battaglia. Learn valuable museum skills and build your resumé through this experience.
Works will be "gallery ready" to hang, and labels and wall texts will be printed. We will install on the Walker Hanging System of the Library and Technology Center. We will focus on correct hanging height, lighting of the exhibition space, and in creating a polished, professional look.
Before commencing work, we will have a free hot lunch in the library lobby.
UNG Dahlonega - March 25 - April 25
The Department of Visual Arts is sponsoring an exhibition of Argentine artist Octavio Battaglia. TimeFrame's Executive Committee selected the artworks, and the club will be handling the exhibition installation. This exhibition is sponsored by the Department of Visual Arts and UNG Libraries upon the initiative of Dr. Ana Pozzi Harris.
The exhibition will take place March 25th-April 25th at the Library and Technology Center, UNG Dahlonega. Showings on other campuses may also take place. Stay tuned.
Octavio Battaglia (b. 1959) is an architect and artist living in Argentina. He creates expressionist portrait drawings in pencil and then completes them with colorful backgrounds in Photoshop. His portraits include anonymous characters who endure challenging lives and celebrities such as Bob Marley, Lionel Messi, Astor Piazzola, Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dalí, El Chavo, and many more. When contemplated together in the exhibition space, these images  perhaps communicate the tension between the unforgiving pull of reality and the dream of the unattainable.
Dahlonega - Tuesday, April 2nd - 5:30 pm
We are so proud of our art history researchers, Reagan Smith and Stephanie McBride, who will be presenting their archival research to the UNG and Dahlonega community on April 2nd at 5:30 pm, at the Library and Technology Center, University of North Georgia. Their research will be visually presented by Emily Bowen, graphic design internship of this project, who is creating the information designs.
Lives Intertwined: North Georgia College and the Choice Street Historic Church
UNG students will share their archival research on the Choice Street Historic Baptist Church near the Dahlonega Square and its enduring connection with the University of North Georgia. Learn about the beautifully preserved architecture and decoration linking the two institutions, about Col. William P. Price’s role in constructing the building, and about the historic NGC cadet traditions and rituals once practiced there.
This event is in celebration of the cultural heritage of the University of North Georgia and will also include historic photographs and texts as part of a museum-style display. The project was funded by a 2023-2024 Presidential Incentive Initiative Award.
The speakers will be broadcast via zoom from the Library Technology Center room 382.
